About Alan Trammel | North Carolina Landscape & Bird Photographer
Growing up, I was always the designated photographer on family vacations — drawn to capturing authentic moments and the unique perspectives of the places we explored.
After studying Communications at North Carolina State University, I built a career as a real estate agent. Photographing clients’ homes taught me the technical side of photography—lighting, composition, and the quiet behind-the-scenes skills that make an image work. But beyond interiors and architecture, I felt the pull back to where my creative voice felt most alive: North Carolina landscapes and wildlife.
From the waterfalls and mountain overlooks of Western North Carolina to sunrises along the Outer Banks, I am constantly studying light — how it shapes a ridgeline, reflects off coastal marsh, or illuminates the quiet presence of a heron at the water’s edge.
Closer to home in the Triangle, I spend countless hours birding and photographing at places like Jordan Lake, Brumley North Nature Preserve, Lake Crabtree County Park, Sandy Creek Park, and Lake Betz — searching for moments where color, texture, and symmetry converge.
My photography celebrates the vivid color, texture, and symmetry of North Carolina’s landscapes and wildlife. Each image is refined through careful editing and intentional print choices that honor each scene.
At its heart, my work is rooted in one simple pursuit:
Chasing Carolina Light.
