Clouds stretch and move across the sky above the marshlands of Bodie Island Lighthouse, framing the lighthouse in a moment of calm strength. Sunrise ignites the sky in soft pink and purple tones over Roanoke Marshes Lighthouse, reflecting across the still waters of Shallowbag Bay. A wooden boardwalk leads toward the lighthouse, its weathered planks catching the shifting color of the morning light as the lighthouse stands calm and steady at the end of the scene.
That brief burst of brilliance lasted only about 90 seconds.
Moments like this are easy to miss, even in a quiet historic harborside village where time moves gently. For those still asleep, it may have passed only as a brief warm glow through their windows.
