Surprised to see this lens here? I love this lens. This little gem sits right between the classic 35mm and the nifty-fifty, offering a natural perspective that works for all kinds of everyday photography.
This lens is perfect for street strolls and composition practice. I often carry it attached to my camera, a strap thrown over my shoulder, while scouting new locations and taking framing shots. It’s ideal when I want to ditch the tripod and other gear, and it’s excellent for a night on the town after dinner.
Pixel peepers—throw out your MTF charts. This lens offers classic rendering. What it may lack in edge-to-edge sharpness, it more than makes up for with color, contrast, and character. It’s also significantly smaller than both the Nikon NIKKOR Z 35mm f/1.8 S and the Nikon NIKKOR Z 50mm f/1.8 S.
Why I Like It
Compact and lightweight: Easy to carry all day.
Fast f/2 aperture: Great for low light and subject separation.
Natural 40mm field of view: Perfect for everyday photography.
Encourages creativity: A small lens like this inspires shooting rather than gear juggling.
This lightweight companion is always ready for spontaneous moments and makes a perfect go-to lens for bloggers, enthusiasts, and photographers traveling light.
I only recommend equipment that’s proven itself through early mornings, challenging weather, and my tendency to wander off trail for “just one more shot.”
Thanks for helping support what I do.
