The search for the perfect tripod is like chasing a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow—ever elusive. The challenge is finding one that meets all your parameters and doesn’t cost a fortune. After years of searching, I finally found a tripod that perfectly fits my needs: the Leofoto LS-284 CEX.
This tripod is the ideal combination of sturdy, lightweight, and compact, while still achieving a working height that is tall enough—and can also go low enough—for real-world photography use.
Why This Tripod Works So Well
• Carbon fiber legs keep the weight down while maintaining excellent rigidity.
• Weighs just 2.8 lbs, making it ideal for travel and hiking
• Folds down to 21 inches, yet reaches a maximum working height of 57.6 inches
Achieving a working height that doesn’t require you to bend down or contort yourself to use the camera’s viewfinder is a must.
I am 6 feet tall, and with a Really Right Stuff BH-40 attached and an L-bracket on my camera, the camera’s viewfinder sits exactly at my standing eye level when the tripod is fully extended.
No Center Column = Maximum Stability & Packability
The key to this tripod’s enormous success is the lack of a center column.
Not having to account for a center column when the legs are folded allows them to fold completely flush with each other. The folded diameter at the feet is roughly 3 3/8 inches, which is about the average size of most travel water bottles.
Because of this compact design:

• It remains remarkably stable, even without extending the center column.
Field Use & Final Thoughts
The leveling base is an excellent addition for making quick field adjustments, especially on uneven terrain.
Considering its thoughtful design, feature set, and quality construction, this tripod is an absolute home run.
I only recommend equipment that’s proven itself through early mornings, challenging weather, and my tendency to wander off trail for “just one more shot.”
