Maven Filters Circular Polarizer Set
Every landscape photographer needs a good set of filters for their camera bag, another tool in the toolbox. Filters help control light, reduce reflections, and enhance image quality.
After struggling with the old-school, hard-to-use rectangular filters, I discovered Maven Filters.
These professional-grade filters are well-made and easy to use:
• This top-quality glass utilizes a magnetic system and knurled rings, allowing you to quickly attach and detach the filters from a magnetic adapter ring.
• The filters are color-coded, making them easy to differentiate in the field and pack in a tiny carry case.
• I haven’t noticed any color casts with these filters.
No product or system is perfect, so here are a few notes to keep in mind:
• The magnets are powerful and really keep the filters secure. This is great, as you don’t have to worry about them falling off in the field, but they can be hard to separate.
• When stacking filters, you get vignetting. A 14mm lens can quickly turn into an 18mm lens.
• If you commit to this system, you will also need to purchase their magnetic lens cap and lens hood, which adds up to a sizable investment.
Sizing tip:
• Get the filter size for your largest lens diameter, then use step rings for the rest.
• Example: I have one lens with an 82mm filter size and three lenses with a 77mm filter size. I purchased 82mm filters and 77mm step-up rings for 82mm filters. This way, I can use the 82mm filters on all my 77mm lenses.
My filter set (82mm filters):
• 3-Stop Neutral Density (red)
• 6-Stop Neutral Density (purple)
• 10-Stop Neutral Density (gold)
• Circular Polarizer
• Magnetic filter cap
• Magnetic lens hood
• Splash step up ring
This top-quality filter set is always in my bag and really simplifies my workflow. Their usability and convenience are unmatched.
I can’t recommend these filters enough.
I only recommend equipment that’s proven itself through early mornings, challenging weather, and my tendency to wander off trail for “just one more shot.”
Thanks for helping support what I do.
