When astrophotography is on the itinerary, this is the lens—period. This ultra-wide, pro-grade prime is simple, reliable, and built for the night sky. With a single switch for auto or manual focus and a nice, wide focus ring, it's effortless to operate in the dark. The generously sized ring is handy on cold nights with gloves, making precise manual focus far easier when fumbling around under the stars.
The lens is long enough to fit a lens warmer or dew heater—a must-have for long exposures in chilly weather. As with all Nikon "S" line lenses, it's built to last and designed to perform in harsh conditions.
Why it's a go-to choice:
• A 20mm focal length captures a huge stretch of sky
• Fast f/1.8 aperture gathers light while keeping images sharp
• Minimal distortion compared to the Nikon 14–30mm
• 7.87-inch minimum focus distance for creative close foregrounds
It also doubles as an outstanding ultra-wide landscape lens—one I regularly pair with my Nikon 24–120mm.
I only recommend equipment that’s proven itself through early mornings, challenging weather, and my tendency to wander off trail for “just one more shot.”
Thanks for helping support what I do.
